When we at Evolution Fightwear received the initial contact to help build the foundation for the new GB Heatherbrae location, we knew this project was going to be something special.

Our team was tasked with transforming an empty concrete shell into a premium martial arts training facility, and the journey from that first phone call to the final mat placement was nothing short of incredible.

The foundation of any great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy is its training surface. For a school carrying the prestigious Gracie Barra name, the mats must meet the highest standards of safety, durability, and aesthetics. The project kicked off with a clear vision: to create a space that reflects the core values of the Gracie Barra brand — brotherhood, integrity, and development. We worked closely with the client to understand their specific needs, ensuring that the layout would accommodate everything from the GBK (Kids) program to the advanced GB3 expert classes.

Our team tackled the installation over a single, intensive weekend. Knowing that the grand opening was fast approaching, we committed to a 14-hour continuous on-site effort. The process began with meticulous floor preparation, ensuring the concrete base was perfectly clean and level. We then laid down the premium rollout mats, carefully aligning every seam to guarantee a flawless, trip-free surface.

But a world-class gym requires more than just floor mats. We also installed high-quality wall pads to ensure maximum safety during intense takedown drills and live sparring sessions. Every inch of the facility was measured, cut, and secured with precision — the result is a training environment that is both inspiring and professional.

The transformation was remarkable. Watching the empty room evolve into a vibrant, professional dojo was a deeply rewarding experience. The striking blue colour, synonymous with the Gracie Barra identity, now fills the space from floor to wall, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming for beginners and serious enough for elite competitors.
