Another home garage transformed: a 4.65m x 2.7m BJJ training space

From an empty garage to a dedicated martial arts training space.

Our team recently finished this custom home fitout, and it is a good example of what a standard garage can become when the mats are made to fit the room rather than the other way around.

What went in

  • Grey Evolution Mats  commercial roll-out mats, the same product we install in academies
  • 4.65m x 2.7m training area, cut to the room
  • Aluminium edging frame around the borders
  • 1.5m high wall padding
  • 4.65m of wall protection across the full width

Before and after

Before: black walls and hex lighting already in, bare slab, and the aluminium edging laid out ready to be set.

After: grey roll-out mats, black aluminium edging frame and grey wall padding to 1.5m.

Why this size works

At 4.65 by 2.7 metres, the floor takes two pairs drilling side by side and working techniques together. For a single pair it is generous, enough room to move, reset and work positions without running out of mat halfway through a roll.

That covers Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, striking and general combat training. It is not a compromise space. It is a small academy floor that happens to live in a garage.

The details that make it feel finished

The aluminium edging frame is what separates a proper fitout from mats laid on a slab. It holds the perimeter square, stops the edges lifting, and gives the floor a clean line where it meets the concrete.

The wall padding matters more at home than it does in a gym. Home spaces are tight and the walls are closer, so 1.5m of padding across the full 4.65m width covers the brick, the garage door track and the corners you would otherwise be thinking about mid-round.

Build one in your space

Whether you are building a home BJJ academy, a garage gym, a private training space or a family martial arts area, we design and manufacture the mats to fit your room exactly.

In Sydney metro we can come to you: a site visit is a flat $99, we measure up and quote the mats and installation, and the $99 comes off your final invoice if you go ahead. Outside Sydney we ship direct, and we will talk you through the cheaper freight options, depot collection or delivery to a commercial address.

Your space. Your training. Your Evolution.
